My Own Moments

my Thoughts, my Feelings, my Dreams

I didn’t know I was building it

For years, this place has held pieces of me.

Thoughts. Feelings. Dreams.
Words written at impossible hours. Photographs. Music. Books. Questions. Moments I understood and others I probably still don’t.

I never thought of them as pieces of something I was building.

They were simply my own moments.

And then, somehow, years later, Selfkind began to exist.

Not as an answer to everything I had written here, and not as a replacement for this space.

More like another place grew from the same roots.

A sanctuary for reflection, dreams, creativity, conversation, and those strange little moments when something inside us asks to be heard.

Looking back at this blog now, perhaps Selfkind isn’t as new as I thought.

Maybe I’ve been leaving fragments of it here for years.

I just didn’t know they belonged together.

A photograph taken because the light felt different that day.
A song that somehow knew what I couldn’t explain.
A dream scribbled down before it disappeared.
A painting, a film, a sentence in a book that stayed long after I had closed it.

Little things.

Moments.

Some beautiful. Some strange. Some that only made sense much later.

I never thought of them as a method. I certainly wasn’t following a plan. I was simply collecting the things that made me stop, feel, question, remember or look at myself differently.

And somewhere along the way, without noticing, I was building a language of my own.

That is probably where Selfkind Sanctuary really began.

Not with a website.

Not with a name.

Not even with the idea of creating something for other people.

It began with that quiet instinct to pay attention.

To dreams.

To words.

To images.

To music.

To those unexpected moments when something outside us touches something inside us and, for a second, we understand ourselves a little better.

Selfkind grew from the possibility of making a place for those moments.

A place where you don’t have to arrive knowing what you are looking for.

Where a dream can simply be a dream before anyone tries to explain it.

Where you can write without needing to turn your thoughts into something polished.

Where art, music, photography or a few words can open a door you didn’t know was there.

And where technology doesn’t have to shout for your attention. It can sit quietly beside you and help you notice.

Perhaps that is why building Selfkind has sometimes felt strangely familiar.

I thought I was creating something new.

Then I looked back at this blog.

At all these years of thoughts, feelings, dreams, photographs, music, detours and unfinished questions.

And realised something rather lovely.

I didn’t know I was building it.

But maybe I was.

Just very, very slowly.
